News & Qitsibi

So, the first batch of friendly games took place last week-end, and here are the (rather encouraging) results :

02.08.14 :  NEFTEKHIMIK NIZHNEKAMSK - LADA TOLYATTI  :   3 - 1

03-08.14 : NEFTEKHIMIK NIZHNEKAMSK - METALLURG NOVOKUZNETSK  :  3  -  0

Since the test games took place in Aosta, Italy, I had the opportunity to travel there on Saturday to sit in the stands and get an idea of the newly re-built team.

The trip went quite smoothly, but it's still about 2 hours driving, and most importantly, 2 borders crossing through mountains, with the exausting drive through the Mont-Blanc tunnel (and damn expensive too, no wonder I don't go to Italy more often).
Anyway, we arrived at the arena right on time for the beginning of the game, so I couldn't be there earlier for warm-ups, sadly...

As for the game itself, I must admit I was quite impressed !

It was the very first test match, right in the middle of summer but both teams played fast and intense.
Maybe I had this impression for being really close to the ice, but I really felt that players took this seriously...

I've been positively impressed by the 1st line, made of Sexton - Khokhryakov - Milovzorov ( which scored on both game and was really efficient).

Second thing I notified was the presence on the ice of D-man Alexander Brit, apparently coming form Titan Klin in MHL, whom I haven't heard of before and who spent a solid 3rd of the total game on the ice and left me with a good impression...

I can also mention Sudnitsin on nets, who's been very solid from the start ( and even during a quick penalty shoots session at the end of the game, won by the petrochemists), Eronen, Zdunov and Rybin amongst others too...

In short, Neftekhimik was clearly superior to Lada in all aspects, so, even though one can't really get an opinion based on one single test match, it left me with a very positive feeling : I've seen the premise of a very efficient offense squad and a solid defense...
Heikkila seems to be working on building a fast and cohesive team, which is exactly what's necessary for this team to succeed...

In short : I can't wait ! :P
